Biography
Graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in St. Petersburg, Russia, Álvaro Pereira was a student of Alexandre Stang in the violin department. He had regular contact with renowned musicians of the present time, such as Nikolaj Znaider, Pinchas Zukerman, and Ilya Kaler. Subsequently, he attended the Konzertexamen course at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold under the tutelage of Thomas Christian.
Álvaro Pereira has served as a guest concertmaster in various orchestras, including the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestra, XXI Orchestra, Guimarães Orchestra, Detmold Chamber Orchestra, and Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra. He was the principal concertmaster of the Southern Classical Orchestra and has been the associate concertmaster of the Porto Symphony Orchestra Casa da Música since September 2019.
In Portugal, he received his education at CCM/Artave and later at Esmae under Zofia Woicica. He has also received guidance from violinists such as Gerardo Ribeiro, Boris Kuniev, and Alexey Michelin.
Álvaro Pereira is a founding member of ars ad hoc, an ensemble that has been actively involved in contemporary and experimental music, collaborating with composers such as Beat Furrer, Ricardo Ribeiro, Simon-Steen Andersen, David Behrman, among others.
He has performed as a soloist with various orchestras and has participated in numerous international and national classical music festivals.
